Alain Ndayisaba, MD, is a graduate student from Innsbruck, Austria, in the Khurana lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. His research focuses on utilizing novel stem-cell based models for the study of neurodegenerative proteinopathies, with a focus on Parkinson’s disease and Multiple System Atrophy. By incorporating patient-specific CNS cells and proteinaceous strains amplifiable from patient tissue and biofluids, these tools not only recapitulate key pathobiology observed in postmortem brain but offer a path to a personalized stem cell model from individual patients amenable to testing new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
