Amy Gleichman, PhD

University of California - Los Angeles

Dr. Amy Gleichman received her bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from Carleton College before continuing on to graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. There, she worked with Dr. David Lynch studying the biological basis of two autoimmune diseases, anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis and anti-AMPA receptor encephalitis. She joined the lab of S. Thomas Carmichael at UCLA as a postdoctoral fellow, where she has explored the heterogeneity of astrocytes in models of different types of ischemic stroke. To facilitate this work, she has concurrently developed dramatically improved astrocyte-specific viral vectors, which are now in wide use in the astrocyte field.
