Jonathan Cooper, PhD

Washington University St. Louis

Jonathan Cooper leads the Pediatric Storage Disorders Laboratory at Washington University in St Louis. The lab works to understand and devise experimental therapies for Lysosomal Storage disorders, such Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCLs or Batten Disease). These are fatal inherited neurodegenerative disorders that result in widespread neurodegeneration within the CNS, that are amenable to gene therapy or enzyme replacement. His work increasingly extends outside the CNS, documenting effects of disease upon the enteric and peripheral nervous systems, and evidence for primary myopathy. All these also require treatment and devising means to target disease within and outside the CNS are ongoing.
